MERIMNA - Safeguarding children at Greek border points
Since November 2020 ZEUXIS is an official implementing partner of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the provision of protection and assistance services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMCs) hosted in the Safe Area (SA) of the Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) in Kos.
Under the program “ΜΕRΙΜΝΑ – Safeguarding children at Greek border points” funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union (DG HOME), ZEUXIS aims at an integrated-holistic provision of services for unaccompanied minors staying at the SA in Kos RIC. Assistance and support will be provided in multiple layers, starting initially from creating an area that will adhere to all the terms and conditions of a safe environment to ensure quality living and smooth coexistence of UMCs.
Psychosocial support takes the form of specialized intervention by the social worker in individual sessions or with the participation of the beneficiaries in group sessions. Furthermore, minors will have access to targeted training in language, cognitive and social skills (workshops and courses).
Unaccompanied children are called upon to engage in the process through routines, responsibilities, and collective actions, to create links between them and the sense of belonging in the community, where every member has a distinct role, enjoys the benefits of coexistence and cooperation, and meets the obligations towards the others.
Finally, UMCs are prepared by professionals implementing the program for the next phase in the process of social integration and thus time will be utilized in the best possible way until they transition to Hosting Structures or their social integration.
