“ΜΕRΙΜΝΑ – Safeguarding children at Greek border points”
Since December 2019 ZEUXIS is an official implementing partner of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for the provision of protection and assistance services to Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMCs) hosted in the Safe Area (SA) of the Reception and Identification Centre (RIC) in Leros.
Reception conditions, particularly for UMCs, remain a major concern due to insufficient alternative care arrangements. Under such conditions, children are exposed to risks, including exploitation, violence and abuse and are found in urgent need of accommodation and supportive services, as prescribed by national law and international standards.
Under the program “ΜΕRΙΜΝΑ – Safeguarding children at Greek border points” funded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund of the European Union (DG HOME), ZEUXIS aims at an integrated-holistic provision of services for unaccompanied minors staying at the SA in Leros RIC. This includes the personalized addressing of their needs for shelter, food, health, education, information, psychological support, socialization and social integration, development of interests, entertainment, sports and creative activities.
In addition, our gaze is turned to the future and our priority is the best possible preparation of UMCs for life's circumstances and requirements that would arise for them in the near future. Thus, throughout their stay in the Safe Area, the UMCs will be prepared by professionals implementing the program for the next phase in the process of social integration and thus time will be utilized in the best possible way until their transition to Hosting Structures through EKKA or their social integration.
